With the completion in 1971 of Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, the most popular destination of visitors to the state shifted from south Florida to central Florida. The northwest Florida coast draws many visitors from other southern states during the summer. People who visit Florida tend to stay longer during the winter than the summer. In most seasons visitors who come by automobile stay longer than those who arrive by air.
